Definitions and Terms
- STRIP JOINT: A nightclub or other establishment where striptease is performed.
- NIGHTCLUB: An establishment that stays open late at night and provides food, drink, entertainment, and music for dancing. Also called nightspot.
- CABARET: A restaurant or nightclub providing short programs of live entertainment. The floor show presented by such a restaurant or nightclub.
- NIGHSPOT: a spot that is open late at night and that provides entertainment (as singers or dancers) as well as dancing and food and drink.
- STRIPTEASE: A performance, as in a burlesque act, in which a person slowly removes clothing, usually to musical accompaniment.
- STRIPPER: One who performs a striptease.
- STRIPTEASE ARTIST: a performer who provides erotic entertainment by undressing to music.
- BELLY DANCER: a woman who performs a solo Oriental dance using exaggerated abdominal movements.
- EXOTIC DANCER: a performer who provides erotic entertainment by undressing to music.
- PEELER: Slang. A stripteaser.
- STRIP SHOW: a form of erotic entertainment in which a dancer gradually undresses to music.
- TURN ON: Something that causes pleasure or excitement: “The real turn-on … is that he is a visionary as well as a scientist” (Village Voice).
- NUDITY: The state of being without clothes.
- Definition of STRIP CLUB: A strip club is a nightclub which specializes in striptease. Striptease performers are called, among other things, strippers or, the term preferred by those in the profession, exotic dancers.
- TEASING: To arouse hope, desire, or curiosity in without affording satisfaction. There are two main types of dancer: feature dancers and house dancers. House dancers work for a particular strip club (or local group of clubs). Feature dancers tend to have their own reputation as a starlet, and travel from town to town, making "feature appearances". Porn stars often earn much of their income as feature dancers.
- LAP DANCING: A variation on striptease is lap dancing or contact dancing. Here the performers, in addition to stripping for tips, also offer "private dances" which involve more attention for individual audience members. The contact can vary from a simple up-close dance with no touching, to physical contact with the stripper to, in some clubs, sexual intercourse. Variations on this theme include table dancing (performer dances on or by customer's table) and couch dancing (customer sits on a couch), or sexual acts between two female strippers, like touching, kissing, fingering and cunnilingus. Along with physical attractiveness and clothing, the main asset and toolhead used by the stripper is recent years is the stripper pole. Women are often allured into the profession due to the attractive salaries they can receive in the form of tips.
- STAG PARTIES: A bachelor party (also called a stag party, stag night, or bucks party (Australia)) is a party held for a bachelor shortly before he is married, to commemorate his final opportunity to engage in activities a new wife might not approve of. Some activities comprising a bachelor party might be going to a strip club, hiring a female stripper or escort, drinking alcohol and gambling.
